Year 5 G Class Page
Mrs Bramall is the class teacher and Mrs Milne is the Teaching Assistant of class 5G.
Thank you for a fantastic welcome to King's Ford Junior School. It has been an absolute pleasure to get to know the children over the past few days and I am really looking forward to an exciting term.
Our topic for this term is 'Tune in 2 KFJ' and we are looking forward to communicating using a range of methods.
Literacy
In Literacy we will be looking at the story of Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. We will imagine that we are stranded on a deserted island and think about how different that would be from the life that we know with all our different forms of communication.
We will also plan, rehearse and record news bulletins and podcasts about various pieces of technology such as imagining we are covering the launch of the ipad2.
After half term we hope to write and perform raps about internet safety and study the contribution that various people such as Steve Jobs and Alexander Bell, have made to communication.
Numeracy
In maths we will continue to build on our knowledge of the written methods for each of the four operations and apply this learning to solving word problems. We will also investigate the time we spend using various forms of communication and try to find out if there is a difference within our school.
Science
In Science we will look at sounds and sound waves. The children will understand that all sounds are the result of vibrations and begin to play with the pitch, volume and tone of sounds.
ICT
In ICT we will produce and edit our podcasts, adding in various effects to make them sound incredibly professional. We will also research the people who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of communication.
History and Art
We will be studying the life and work of John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough. We will work collaboratively to create reproductions of his most famous paintings and aim to replicate the techniques, that he used, in our art. We hope to get outside and use our surroundings to produce some fantastic 'real' art!

PE
We will be working on gymnastics and basketball. We will need our PE kits for indoor PE on a Tuesday and outdoor PE (weather permitting) on a Friday.
Homework
Numeracy, Literacy and spellings Homework will be set on a Friday and will be due in on the following Wednesday. Please try to listen to your child read each evening and help them learn their weekly spellings.
Thank you
