Curriculum

At King's Ford Junior School we are all very enthusiastic about creating a curriculum that inspires children to use their imaginations and reach their full potential.  Because we have had some issues in the past with attainment at the end of year 6 we still teach maths and literacy every morning, although they are linked where possible to our termly theme.

This term our whole school theme is "Tune in2 KFJ". The focus is on communication especially through technology. The children will be looking at communication through film and photographs. Some of them will be setting up their own own in school radio programme and using photostory 3 to add visual effects.

We are also looking forward to publishing podcasts on this website and have invited Sir Bob Russell, our local MP, to be interviewed and be part of our project. Parents will all be invited in for an open afternoon at the end of term to see how many different projects we have completed within our theme.

At the start of each term the teachers create curriculum maps which are monitored by subject leaders to make sure we are covering the whole breadth of the national curriculum. We want to be sure that whilst we are having a fun time we are also teaching what we should be!

We believe as a school that learning should be exciting and relevant.  Each classroom has a role play area to encourage speaking and listening and every day before break is story time.  All the teachers look for and take every opportunity to learn in our huge grounds and at the end of every term the school comes together to showcase our theme whether that be, for example, in a performance, art gallery or open day.

Parents are encouraged to get involved too, especially in our parent/pupil project where we set a homework assignment for both the pupil and parent to work on together.  If you have any questions about the curriculum or how we are addressing driving standards up within the school please don't hesitate to make an appointment to see a member of the senior management team.
